What do you love most about your job?
I love being my own boss and having the outdoors as my office. There is great satisfaction and freedom that comes with both.

How do you beat the heat when working outside?
For me, when the heat is on, staying hydrated is my first priority. I drink tons of water all day. I also typically schedule jobs either early or later in the afternoon or both throughout the spring and summer months to avoid the hottest parts of the day. But definitely stay hydrated and take breaks.

String trimmer, weed whacker, weed eater, or weed whip?
Hmmmm. Funny. I guess definitely always said String Trimmer because that's what my dad used to call it. I've heard all the above so who knows.

Advice for anyone interested in starting their own lawn care business?
It's not for everyone, that I know for sure. My advice comes from my own experiences, hopefully, it helps.

Be Prepared: -For me preparation is key. Be prepared to work hard first and foremost. It's not always hard but it is work.

• Maybe Start out slow. I'm a beast and when I first started, I took every job that came my way and it didn't take long to realize that was a bad idea. Long story short. I scheduled so tightly and I left no room for "what ifs". I had one what if after another. I got behind and started missing eta's, constantly rescheduling. Customers are somewhat forgiving, but overscheduling + issues = bad customer service and reputation damage. Losing clients=lost revenue. So be realistic and don't overcommit. I also take pride in doing a great job and completing all services on every work order. Shortcuts never work. -Not being prepared was the source of my issues. Have a vehicle that is reliable and appropriate. Having the right equipment is huge. Have the equipment needed for the job. Have equipment that can take the wear and tear of daily use. Also, invest in backup equipment. Do weekly maintenance and equipment checks. Hire help for big jobs, it will save you money in the end.
• Be knowledgeable. Its not just cutting lawns. All grass, trees, flowers, shrubs ect. are different and maintenance applications vary along with chemicals you will be using. Believe me, damaging or killing a clients prized Japanese Maple or skimming a plush green lawn doesn't go over too well. For me, knowledge is always more profitable.
• Even if you have clients lined up, I highly recommend joining Lawn Love. Being a pro and having Lawn Love as a resource has been a blessing. Lawn Love does all the leg work for you. Through the app you'll find provided lists of jobs daily that you can choose from, jobs that have already been estimated, they invoice and collect payment ect. I recieve my payment via direct deposit usually three days after completing workorder. There is a dashboard you can use that shows your schedule, payments, ratings and support. All workorders are gps enabled. Its a no brainer and joining Lawn Love is easy.

What's your favorite on-the-job snack?
If its a snack, I probably like it. My favorite? Probably Jack Links Korean BBQ Jerky or trail mix.
